Market Size for Porcelain Or China Tableware And Kitchenware in Uganda

After two years of growth, the Ugandan porcelain tableware and kitchenware market decreased by -15.1% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, saw a mild increase. Porcelain tableware and kitchenware consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of porcelain or china tableware and kitchenware were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 418%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, porcelain tableware and kitchenware exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 286%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Burundi (X tons) was the main destination for porcelain tableware and kitchenware exports from Uganda, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, porcelain tableware and kitchenware exports to Burundi exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), threefold. Sudan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Burundi totaled -6.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+27.4% per year) and Sudan (-2.8% per year).

In value terms, South Sudan ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and Sudan ($X) constituted the largest markets for porcelain tableware and kitchenware exported from Uganda worldwide, together comprising 72% of total exports.

Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a CAGR of +26.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average porcelain tableware and kitchenware export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 64%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Sudan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+19.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of porcelain or china tableware and kitchenware, when their volume decreased by -12.1% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 134% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, porcelain tableware and kitchenware imports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 80%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) was the main supplier of porcelain tableware and kitchenware to Uganda, with a 94% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +1.8%.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of porcelain or china tableware and kitchenware to Uganda, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 1.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +3.2%.

Import Prices by Country

The average porcelain tableware and kitchenware import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.4%).
