In value terms, potassium hydroxide exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 253% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Rwanda (X kg) was the main destination for potassium hydroxide exports from Uganda, accounting for a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, potassium hydroxide exports to Rwanda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burundi (X kg), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Rwanda totaled +13.5%.

In value terms, the largest markets for potassium hydroxide exported from Uganda were Rwanda ($X) and Burundi ($X).

The average potassium hydroxide export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 99%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Burundi ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (-4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, potassium hydroxide imports into Uganda surged to X tons, increasing by 53% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 189% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, potassium hydroxide imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 135%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of potassium hydroxide to Uganda, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, potassium hydroxide imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Africa (X tons), with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +5.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+0.6% per year) and South Africa (+16.8% per year).

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and Kenya ($X) were the largest potassium hydroxide suppliers to Uganda, together comprising 90% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Kenya, with a CAGR of +42.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
