Radio Receiver Market Size in Uganda

In 2022, the Ugandan radio receiver market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted a buoyant increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Uganda

In 2022, radio receiver exports from Uganda expanded modestly to X units, surging by 3.8% compared with 2021. Overall, exports saw a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 128% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, radio receiver exports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 119%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Burundi (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Kenya (X units) were the main destinations of radio receiver exports from Uganda, together accounting for 95% of total exports. South Africa and Rwanda lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.3%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Africa (with a CAGR of +28.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kenya ($X), Burundi ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) constituted the largest markets for radio receiver exported from Uganda worldwide, together comprising 90% of total exports. South Africa and Rwanda lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 5.1%.

South Africa, with a CAGR of +31.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average radio receiver export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a perceptible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average export price increased by 135% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+16.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Radio Receiver Imports

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, approx. X units of radio receivers were imported into Uganda; waning by -1.6% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 82%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, radio receiver imports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), India (X units) and Hong Kong SAR (X units) were the main suppliers of radio receiver imports to Uganda, together accounting for 79% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Switzerland and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Switzerland (with a CAGR of +127.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest radio receiver suppliers to Uganda were China ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 81% of total imports. Malaysia, Kenya, Hong Kong SAR and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Switzerland, with a CAGR of +59.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average radio receiver import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 119% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while the price for Switzerland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
