Rwanda (X kg) was the main destination for recovered fibre pulp exports from Uganda, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.

Imports into Uganda
Recovered fibre pulp imports into Uganda shrank notably to X tons in 2022, which is down by -16.2% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 6,092% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, recovered fibre pulp imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 5,579% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Rwanda (X tons) was the main recovered fibre pulp supplier to Uganda, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, recovered fibre pulp imports from Rwanda exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Rwanda totaled +45.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+13.2% per year) and Kenya (-28.6% per year).
In value terms, Rwanda ($X) constituted the largest supplier of recovered fibre pulp to Uganda, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 2.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Rwanda totaled +51.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+15.4% per year) and Kenya (-3.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average recovered fibre pulp import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 242% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+34.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
