Over the period under review, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 218%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, starch manufacture residues exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 80% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Kenya (X tons) was the main destination for starch manufacture residues exports from Uganda, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, starch manufacture residues exports to Kenya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Rwanda (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kenya amounted to +5.7%.
In value terms, the largest markets for starch manufacture residues exported from Uganda were Kenya ($X) and Rwanda ($X).
Rwanda, with a CAGR of +41.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review.

In 2022, the average starch manufacture residues export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 12% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (-10.6%).

Imports into Uganda
In 2020, after three years of decline, there was decline in overseas purchases of residues of starch manufacture, when their volume decreased by 0% to X kg. In general, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 669% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X kg in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, starch manufacture residues imports stood at $X in 2020. Overall, imports recorded a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 1,416%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2020, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, China (X kg) was the main starch manufacture residues supplier to Uganda, with a approx. 100% share of total imports.
