In 2022, the average yield of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) in Uganda amounted to X kg per head, approximately reflecting the previous year's figure. Exports from Uganda
In 2022, shipments abroad of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) increased by 3.4% to X tons for the first time since 2012, thus ending a nine-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Pakistan (X tons) was the main destination for sheepskin and lambskin exports from Uganda, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Pakistan totaled -9.4%.
In value terms, Pakistan ($X) also remains the key foreign market for sheep or lamb skins (without wool) exports from Uganda.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sheepskin and lambskin export price decreased by -1.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 7%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Pakistan.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of sheep or lamb skins (without wool), when their volume decreased by -33.3% to X tons. In general, imports, however, enjoyed slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 4,514%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin imports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 4,217% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Tanzania (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sheepskin and lambskin to Uganda, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, sheepskin and lambskin imports from Tanzania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kenya (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Tanzania amounted to +1.7%.
In value terms, Tanzania ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sheep or lamb skins (without wool) to Uganda, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Tanzania amounted to +4.5%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sheepskin and lambskin import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 164%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while the price for Kenya stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
