The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 422%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), South Sudan (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use from Uganda, together accounting for 99% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Sudan (with a CAGR of +8.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 48% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, supplies from abroad of soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use increased by 3.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use reached $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Kenya (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of soap in bars for toilet use to Uganda, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use from Kenya exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kenya was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+27.0% per year) and Egypt (-9.1% per year).
In value terms, Kenya ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use to Uganda, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Kenya was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+17.2% per year) and Egypt (-13.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for soap and organic surface-active products in bars for toilet use amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
