Plastic Ornamental Articles Market Size in Uganda
The Ugandan plastic ornamental articles market fell remarkably to $X in 2022, which is down by -44.3% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a modest increase. Plastic ornamental articles consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Uganda
In 2022, the amount of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic exported from Uganda skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 133% on 2021. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 524% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic ornamental articles exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 254% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Burundi (X tons) was the main destination for plastic ornamental articles exports from Uganda, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X kg), with a 1.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Burundi stood at -3.9%.
In value terms, Burundi ($X) remains the key foreign market for statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic exports from Uganda, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Burundi totaled +13.7%.
Export Prices by Country
The average plastic ornamental articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 123%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plastic Ornamental Articles Imports
Imports into Uganda
Plastic ornamental articles imports into Uganda contracted dramatically to X tons in 2022, declining by -41.3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 476% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic ornamental articles imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 557% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) was the main plastic ornamental articles supplier to Uganda, with a 95% share of total imports. It was followed by Kenya (X tons), with a 2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (-10.3% per year) and India (-18.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic to Uganda, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with a 2.7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (-13.0% per year) and India (-15.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average plastic ornamental articles import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -1.8% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic ornamental articles import price increased by +63.8% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 48%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
