Syringe Market Size in Uganda

The Ugandan syringe market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, growing by 19% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption posted a strong expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Uganda

In 2022, the amount of syringes, with or without needles exported from Uganda stood at X units, remaining constant against the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 855%. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, syringe exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 1,306% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Sudan (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Rwanda (X units) were the main destinations of syringe exports from Uganda, together comprising 99% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Sudan (with a CAGR of -15.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, South Sudan ($X) remains the key foreign market for syringes, with or without needles exports from Uganda, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Rwanda ($X), with a 2.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to South Sudan totaled +40.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Rwanda (+27.6% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (-19.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average syringe export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 261% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+85.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Syringe Imports

Imports into Uganda

Syringe imports into Uganda skyrocketed to X units in 2022, picking up by 23% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 170% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, syringe imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -11.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest syringe supplier to Uganda, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, syringe imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kenya (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X units), with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +13.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kenya (+5.4% per year) and India (-0.3% per year).

In value terms, the largest syringe suppliers to Uganda were China ($X), Kenya ($X) and India ($X), with a combined 93% share of total imports. Belgium, Denmark and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 1.8%.

Among the main suppliers, Egypt, with a CAGR of +25.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average syringe import price stood at $X per thousand units in 2022, which is down by -6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 50%. The import price peaked at $X per thousand units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per thousand units), while the price for Egypt ($X per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
