Concrete Tile Market Size in Uganda
The Ugandan concrete tile market fell modestly to $X in 2022, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. In general, the total consumption indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +2.9% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concrete tile production fell slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -6.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Concrete tile production peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Concrete Tile Exports
Exports from Uganda
In 2022, the amount of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone exported from Uganda declined notably to X tons, which is down by -31.2% compared with 2021. In general, exports saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 363% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, concrete tile exports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 208% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Sudan (X tons), Rwanda (X tons) and Kenya (X tons) were the main destinations of concrete tile exports from Uganda, together comprising 84% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kenya (with a CAGR of +37.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, South Sudan ($X), Rwanda ($X) and Kenya ($X) were the largest markets for concrete tile exported from Uganda worldwide, together accounting for 91% of total exports.
Kenya, with a CAGR of +67.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average concrete tile export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 69%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+21.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Concrete Tile Imports
Imports into Uganda
In 2022, the amount of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone imported into Uganda surged to X tons, jumping by 90% on 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 174% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, concrete tile imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 134%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of concrete tile to Uganda, with a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, concrete tile imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +5.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-3.3% per year) and India (-15.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest concrete tile suppliers to Uganda were India ($X), China ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 64% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +3.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average concrete tile import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -33.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+17.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
