The Ugandan TV without reception market declined modestly to $X in 2022, dropping by -2.3% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In general, exports, however, recorded a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 303% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, TV without reception exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a dramatic contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 452%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United States (X units) was the main destination for TV without reception exports from Uganda, accounting for a 53% share of total exports. Moreover, TV without reception exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burundi (X units), twofold. Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled -7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (+38.0% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (-36.6% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X), Tanzania ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for TV without reception exported from Uganda worldwide, with a combined 88% share of total exports. Burundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Netherlands and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.8%.

Burundi, with a CAGR of +67.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average TV without reception export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 218%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+21.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uganda

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of transmission apparatus for radio-broadcasting and television (without reception apparatus), when their volume decreased by -1.9% to X units. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 384% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, TV without reception imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 285%.
