The vegetable product yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The vegetable product harvested area in Uganda reduced to X ha in 2022, which is down by -5.8% compared with 2021 figures. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to vegetable product production reached the maximum at X ha in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Vegetable product exports from Uganda surged to X tons in 2022, jumping by 18% against 2021. In general, exports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 388%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, vegetable product exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 686% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The UK (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable product exports from Uganda, with a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable product exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), eightfold. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the UK amounted to +51.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+60.8% per year) and the Czech Republic (+155.2% per year).
In value terms, the UK ($X) remains the key foreign market for vegetable products exports from Uganda, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the UK totaled +38.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+64.8% per year) and the Czech Republic (+178.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average vegetable product export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 61%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Uganda
In 2022, imports of vegetable products into Uganda skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 347% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 3,026% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, Burundi (X tons) was the main vegetable product supplier to Uganda, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable product imports from Burundi exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Burundi totaled +26,482.3%.
In value terms, Burundi ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetable products to Uganda, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Burundi totaled +25,203.8%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average vegetable product import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -12.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 116%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for Burundi amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sudan (+140.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
