In 2022, approx. X tons of vegetable puree were imported into Uganda; growing by 20% against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 246% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable puree imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 186% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kenya (X kg) constituted the largest vegetable puree supplier to Uganda, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable puree imports from Kenya exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X kg), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X kg), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Kenya amounted to +4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+8.1% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-1.1% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X), Kenya ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the largest vegetable puree suppliers to Uganda, with a combined 89% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Italy, with a CAGR of +23.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average vegetable puree import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 8.2% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, vegetable puree import price increased by +123.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 44%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+13.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
