In 2022, vices and clamps exports from Uganda rose markedly to X tons, with an increase of 7% compared with 2021. In general, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 1,320% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vices and clamps exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 712%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Sudan (X kg) was the main destination for vices and clamps exports from Uganda, accounting for a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, vices and clamps exports to Sudan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Africa (X kg), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Tanzania (X kg), with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Sudan totaled +34.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (+56.7% per year) and Tanzania (-8.8% per year).
In value terms, Zambia ($X) remains the key foreign market for vices and clamps exports from Uganda, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sudan ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Zambia totaled +16.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sudan (+48.4% per year) and South Africa (+40.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average vices and clamps export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 228% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+37.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vices And Clamps Imports
Imports into Uganda
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of vices and clamps increased by 216% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, vices and clamps imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a deep setback. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of vices and clamps to Uganda, with a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, vices and clamps imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fourfold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates stood at +6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-17.1% per year) and India (-17.5% per year).
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vices and clamps to Uganda, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France amounted to +52.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-6.5% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+5.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average vices and clamps import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -23.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 170% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+12.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
