The Ugandan bracelet market expanded to $X in 2022, increasing by 4.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bracelet production expanded notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Uganda
Bracelet exports from Uganda reduced markedly to X units in 2022, which is down by -38% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 294% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bracelet exports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 215%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) was the main destination for bracelet exports from Uganda, with a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, bracelet exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burundi (X units), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Democratic Republic of the Congo totaled +69.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (+46.3% per year) and Rwanda (+7.2% per year).
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) remains the key foreign market for watch straps, bands and bracelets exports from Uganda, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burundi ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Democratic Republic of the Congo amounted to +50.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burundi (+39.0% per year) and Rwanda (+23.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average bracelet export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 116% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Bracelet Imports
Imports into Uganda
In 2022, the amount of watch straps, bands and bracelets imported into Uganda dropped modestly to X units, with a decrease of -2.7% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 1,631% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bracelet imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 221%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units) constituted the largest bracelet supplier to Uganda, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, bracelet imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Switzerland (X units), with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates stood at +8.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+17.7% per year) and Switzerland (+9.2% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of watch straps, bands and bracelets to Uganda, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +37.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+1.5% per year) and the UK (+19.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average bracelet import price amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 486%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
