Apricot Market Size in Ukraine

For the fourth consecutive year, the Ukrainian apricot market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -1.9% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a slight increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Apricot Production in Ukraine

In value terms, apricot production reduced slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production enjoyed a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 156% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the average yield of apricots in Ukraine expanded notably to X tons per ha, growing by 12% compared with 2021 figures. In general, the yield saw a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the yield increased by 115%. The apricot yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, the harvested area of apricots in Ukraine contracted slightly to X ha, approximately reflecting the previous year's figure. In general, the harvested area recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 2.6% against the previous year. The apricot harvested area peaked at X ha in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of apricots decreased by -31.7% to X kg, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. In general, exports faced a dramatic curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 3,802% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, apricot exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 5,675% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Panama (X kg), Liberia (X kg) and Greece (X kg) were the main destinations of apricot exports from Ukraine, together comprising 75% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +10.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Panama ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for apricots exports from Ukraine, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Greece ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Marshall Islands, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Panama stood at +11.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Greece (-6.0% per year) and Marshall Islands (-0.8% per year).

The average apricot export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 37% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 332%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Liberia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of apricots decreased by -16.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 252% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apricot imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 175%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Moldova (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main suppliers of apricot imports to Ukraine, together comprising 92% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Moldova (with a CAGR of +109.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest apricot suppliers to Ukraine were Moldova ($X), Turkey ($X) and Greece ($X), together comprising 88% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Moldova, with a CAGR of +109.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average apricot import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Armenia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
