Baryte Market Size in Ukraine

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Ukrainian baryte market, when its value decreased by -3.8% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw a significant increase. Baryte consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, baryte exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 1,756%. Russia (X tons) was the main destination for baryte exports from Ukraine, with a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland (X kg), with a 1.3% share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 192% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+547.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, supplies from abroad of barytes decreased by -3.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 223%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baryte imports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 142% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Bulgaria (X tons) constituted the largest baryte supplier to Ukraine, accounting for a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, baryte imports from Bulgaria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X tons), with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Bulgaria amounted to +15.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-21.1% per year) and Russia (-9.1% per year).

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of barytes to Ukraine, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Bulgaria totaled +14.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-20.4% per year) and Russia (-16.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average baryte import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
