Exports from Ukraine

In 2022, exports of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets from Ukraine shrank rapidly to X tons, declining by -40% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 44%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, base metal hook exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Moldova (X tons) was the main destination for base metal hook exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, base metal hook exports to Moldova exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X tons), with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Moldova was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+109.0% per year) and Russia (-17.2% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets exports from Ukraine, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland totaled +113.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-15.0% per year) and Moldova (-2.4% per year).

In 2022, the average base metal hook export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -19.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Georgia (+16.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2022, base metal hook imports into Ukraine declined to X tons, which is down by -9.5% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, base metal hook imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +29.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of base metal hook imports to Ukraine, with a combined 63% share of total imports. China, Romania, Germany and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +38.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of base metal hooks, eyes and eyelets to Ukraine, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 13% share.
