In 2022, the Ukrainian beet-pulp and bagasse market increased by 1.8% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption showed a deep downturn. Beet-pulp and bagasse consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Ukraine

In 2022, the amount of beet-pulp and bagasse exported from Ukraine plummeted to X tons, shrinking by -30.6% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, beet-pulp and bagasse exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 59%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main destinations of beet-pulp and bagasse exports from Ukraine, with a combined 83% share of total exports. The Netherlands, China, Hungary and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of +56.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for beet-pulp and bagasse exports from Ukraine, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Poland amounted to +34.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+26.1% per year) and South Korea (+20.7% per year).

In 2022, the average beet-pulp and bagasse export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7.5% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, beet-pulp and bagasse export price increased by +69.3% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 19%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2022, beet-pulp and bagasse imports into Ukraine surged to X tons, growing by 147% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, beet-pulp and bagasse imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest beet-pulp and bagasse supplier to Ukraine, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, beet-pulp and bagasse imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), threefold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+4.5% per year) and Russia (-0.9% per year).

In value terms, Austria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of beet-pulp and bagasse to Ukraine, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with an 8.8% share.

From 2013 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Austria totaled -2.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-4.4% per year) and Russia (-0.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average beet-pulp and bagasse import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -13.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
