Over the period under review, exports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, glass bottle, jar and container exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Poland (X units), Italy (X units) and Romania (X units) were the main destinations of glass bottle, jar and container exports from Ukraine, together comprising 42% of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, Greece, Lithuania, Hungary, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Bulgaria and Moldova, which together accounted for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +203.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X), Italy ($X) and Romania ($X) constituted the largest markets for glass bottle, jar and container exported from Ukraine worldwide, with a combined 40% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Greece, Hungary, Austria, Lithuania, Belgium, Spain, Bulgaria, Moldova and Germany, which together accounted for a further 41%.
Among the main countries of destination, France, with a CAGR of +219.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average export price for bottles, jars and other containers of glass amounted to $X per unit, rising by 6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 8%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, purchases abroad of bottles, jars and other containers of glass decreased by -35.3% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 84%. Imports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, glass bottle, jar and container imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belarus (X units) constituted the largest supplier of glass bottle, jar and container to Ukraine, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, glass bottle, jar and container imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Slovakia (X units), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belarus stood at -7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+4.8% per year) and Slovakia (+27.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bottles, jars and other containers of glass to Ukraine, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovakia, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-8.4% per year) and Slovakia (+11.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for bottles, jars and other containers of glass stood at $X per unit in 2021, jumping by 38% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, glass bottle, jar and container import price increased by +46.1% against 2019 indices. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
