The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+4.2%).

In 2021, overseas purchases of calcium carbonate increased by 7.7% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calcium carbonate imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of calcium carbonate imports to Ukraine, with a combined 27% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Slovenia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Vietnam and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 11%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +39.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of calcium carbonate to Ukraine, comprising 25% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 5.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to -11.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+12.8% per year) and Poland (+11.6% per year).

The average calcium carbonate import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
