In value terms, candles and tapers exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +25.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of candles and tapers exports from Ukraine, with a combined 81% share of total exports. Denmark and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +43.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Switzerland ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for candles and tapers exported from Ukraine worldwide, with a combined 80% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Denmark and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 11%.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +43.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average candles and tapers export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight curtailment. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Ukraine

For the sixth year in a row, Ukraine recorded growth in purchases abroad of candles and tapers, which increased by 23% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 84%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, candles and tapers imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest candles and tapers supplier to Ukraine, with a 78% share of total imports. Moreover, candles and tapers imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), sixfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland stood at +38.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+6.2% per year) and Russia (+11.9% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of candles and tapers to Ukraine, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 19% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland totaled +33.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+5.3% per year) and Russia (+1.5% per year).

The average candles and tapers import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced decline. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
