Canned Meat Market Size in Ukraine

The Ukrainian canned meat market rose remarkably to $X in 2021, surging by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. Canned meat consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X tons of canned meat were exported from Ukraine; with an increase of 11% on 2020. Over the period under review, exports posted pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, canned meat exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 36%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for canned meat exports from Ukraine, with a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, canned meat exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Georgia (X tons), threefold. Moldova (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands stood at +111.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Georgia (+18.3% per year) and Moldova (+3.9% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for canned meat exports from Ukraine, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Georgia, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands stood at +84.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+178.1% per year) and Georgia (+13.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average canned meat export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -6.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Albania (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, purchases abroad of canned meat increased by 22% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, canned meat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

France (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned meat imports to Ukraine, together accounting for 91% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +66.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of canned meat to Ukraine, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from France totaled +57.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-13.7% per year) and Spain (-4.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average canned meat import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 6.8% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, canned meat import price decreased by -18.6% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 62%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
