Carbides Market Size in Ukraine

In 2022, the Ukrainian carbides market decreased by -5.2% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, the total consumption indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 143%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Hungary ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2022, the amount of carbides imported into Ukraine shrank notably to X tons, declining by -77.3% against 2021 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carbides imports plummeted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. In 2022, Slovakia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of carbides to Ukraine, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, carbides imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kazakhstan (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Slovakia amounted to -5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-15.3% per year) and Italy (+50.6% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of carbides to Ukraine, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Slovakia amounted to -3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-14.1% per year) and Italy (+44.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average carbides import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 44% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
