Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2020 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +51.0% over the last one-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Moldova (X kg) was the main destination for carob exports from Ukraine, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total exports.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Moldova.

Imports into Ukraine
For the third year in a row, Ukraine recorded growth in purchases abroad of carob, which increased by 14% to X tons in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2014 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last seven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +46.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 39%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, carob imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2014 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the last seven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest carob supplier to Ukraine, accounting for a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, carob imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Algeria (X tons), sixfold.
From 2014 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Algeria (+2.7% per year) and Egypt (-7.6% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of carob to Ukraine, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Algeria ($X), with an 18% share of total imports.
From 2014 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Spain stood at +11.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Algeria (+5.3% per year) and Egypt (-16.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average carob import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2014 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last seven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, carob import price increased by +32.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
