Carrot And Turnip Market Size in Ukraine
The Ukrainian carrot and turnip market expanded to $X in 2022, increasing by 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the average carrot and turnip yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of carrots and turnips production in Ukraine amounted to X ha, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the harvested area, however, showed a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 1.2% against the previous year. The carrot and turnip harvested area peaked at X ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Ukraine
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of carrots and turnips, when their volume decreased by -99.8% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports saw a precipitous shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 931%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.
In value terms, carrot and turnip exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 493%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Moldova (X tons) was the main destination for carrot and turnip exports from Ukraine, with a 70% share of total exports. Moreover, carrot and turnip exports to Moldova exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Georgia (X tons), more than tenfold. Panama (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Moldova amounted to -35.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Georgia (+97.1% per year) and Panama (-9.9% per year).
In value terms, Moldova ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for carrots and turnips exports from Ukraine, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Panama ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Georgia, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Moldova amounted to -30.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (-11.7% per year) and Georgia (+70.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average carrot and turnip export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a strong increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine
In 2022, supplies from abroad of carrots and turnips was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, carrot and turnip imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest carrot and turnip supplier to Ukraine, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, carrot and turnip imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland totaled +43.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+80.9% per year) and Turkey (+39.4% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Moldova ($X) appeared to be the largest carrot and turnip suppliers to Ukraine, with a combined 93% share of total imports.
Moldova, with a CAGR of +168.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average carrot and turnip import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 69% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+20.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
