Cereal Market Size in Ukraine

In 2022, the Ukrainian cereal market increased by X% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption saw perceptible growth. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by X% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cereal exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Hungary ($X per ton) and Egypt ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lebanon ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ukraine

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of cereals decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports faced a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, cereal imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons), France (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main suppliers of cereal imports to Ukraine, together comprising X% of total imports. Romania, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Austria, the United States, Belarus and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cereals to Ukraine, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France totaled X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (X% per year) and Hungary (X% per year).

The average cereal import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed slight growth. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
