Other Cereals Market Size in Ukraine
For the third consecutive year, the Ukrainian other cereals market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 15% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Other Cereals Production in Ukraine
In value terms, other cereals production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.
The average yield of other cerealses in Ukraine rose modestly to X tons per ha in 2021, picking up by 3.7% on the year before. Overall, the yield, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the yield increased by 84%. Over the period under review, the average other cereals yield attained the maximum level at X tons per ha in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, the total area harvested in terms of other cerealses production in Ukraine was estimated at X ha, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the harvested area showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the harvested area increased by 17%. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the other cereals harvested area remained at a lower figure.
Other Cereals Exports
Exports from Ukraine
In 2021, shipments abroad of other cerealses decreased by -14.7% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 744% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, other cereals exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 299%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Lithuania (X tons) was the main destination for other cereals exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, other cereals exports to Lithuania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sri Lanka (X tons), more than tenfold. Jordan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lithuania amounted to -14.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (0.0% per year) and Jordan (0.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for other cereals exported from Ukraine were Lithuania ($X), Germany ($X) and Jordan ($X), together accounting for 84% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +93.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average other cereals export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 135% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a remarkable increase. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+900.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Other Cereals Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, the amount of other cerealses imported into Ukraine surged to X tons, increasing by 1,466% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, other cereals imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 145% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belarus (X tons) was the main other cereals supplier to Ukraine, with a 90% share of total imports. Moreover, other cereals imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Peru (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belarus was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+77.3% per year) and Canada (+33.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest other cereals suppliers to Ukraine were Peru ($X), Belarus ($X) and Canada ($X), together comprising 84% of total imports.
Peru, with a CAGR of +63.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average other cereals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -87.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 17%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+9.0%).
