In 2022, overseas purchases of coconuts decreased by -49.6% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, coconut imports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 88%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) constituted the largest coconut supplier to Ukraine, with a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, coconut imports from Cote d'Ivoire exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), ninefold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Cote d'Ivoire amounted to +9.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+79.1% per year) and Poland (-48.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average coconut import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 34%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
