Crude Soybean Oil Market Size in Ukraine
After four years of growth, the Ukrainian crude soybean oil market decreased by -5.9% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, saw prominent growth. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Crude Soybean Oil Production in Ukraine
In value terms, crude soybean oil production expanded slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 38%. Crude soybean oil production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Ukraine
In 2022, shipments abroad of crude soybean oil decreased by -2.1% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 75%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crude soybean oil exports rose notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 58%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons) was the main destination for crude soybean oil exports from Ukraine, with a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, crude soybean oil exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland stood at +24.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+47.9% per year) and China (+5.5% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for crude soybean oil exports from Ukraine, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland totaled +26.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+46.6% per year) and China (+12.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average crude soybean oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 7.3% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, crude soybean oil export price increased by +98.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to China ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tunisia ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Soybean Oil Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2022, imports of crude soybean oil into Ukraine fell significantly to X tons, with a decrease of -96.1% on the previous year. Overall, imports faced a precipitous decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 300%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, crude soybean oil imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Estonia (X tons) was the main supplier of crude soybean oil to Ukraine, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Estonia was relatively modest.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Russia amounted to +14.2% per year.
