The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average currant and gooseberry yield hit record highs at X tons per ha in 2020, and then fell in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2021, the total area harvested in terms of currants and gooseberries production in Ukraine amounted to X ha, growing by 2.1% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. Exports from Ukraine

In 2021, overseas shipments of currants and gooseberries decreased by -8.8% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after seven years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 366%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, currant and gooseberry exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 368%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons) was the main destination for currant and gooseberry exports from Ukraine, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, currant and gooseberry exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland stood at +157.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-0.6% per year) and Moldova (-19.9% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for currant and gooseberry exports from Ukraine, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland amounted to +148.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+24.2% per year) and Moldova (-17.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average currant and gooseberry export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, currant and gooseberry export price increased by +61.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+25.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, imports of currants and gooseberries into Ukraine skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 31% on 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 119%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, currant and gooseberry imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of currant and gooseberry to Ukraine, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, currant and gooseberry imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Chile (X kg), with a 2.9% share.

From 2014 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+30.0% per year) and Chile (+2.4% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of currant and gooseberry to Ukraine, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 5.7% share.

From 2014 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands stood at +12.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+42.6% per year) and Poland (+27.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average currant and gooseberry import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 58%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+39.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
