In value terms, buttermilk and buttermilk powder exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 154%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Moldova (X tons) was the main destination for buttermilk and buttermilk powder exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, buttermilk and buttermilk powder exports to Moldova exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kazakhstan (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Georgia (X tons), with a 1.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Moldova stood at +3.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (-6.7% per year) and Georgia (-0.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for buttermilk and buttermilk powder exported from Ukraine were Moldova ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together comprising 97% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Moldova, with a CAGR of +4.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average buttermilk and buttermilk powder export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -20.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw slight growth. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine
After five years of growth, purchases abroad of buttermilk and buttermilk powder decreased by -25.9% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, buttermilk and buttermilk powder imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Belgium (X tons) constituted the largest buttermilk and buttermilk powder supplier to Ukraine, accounting for a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, buttermilk and buttermilk powder imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), fivefold. Belarus (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.6% share.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) constituted the largest supplier of buttermilk and buttermilk powder to Ukraine, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Belgium stood at +107.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+70.3% per year) and Germany (+0.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average buttermilk and buttermilk powder import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
