In 2022, the Ukrainian dry vegetable market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption showed a mild setback. Exports from Ukraine
In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of dry vegetables, when their volume decreased by -46.7% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 309%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, dry vegetable exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 224% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
Exports by Country
Spain (X tons) was the main destination for dry vegetable exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, dry vegetable exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Spain stood at +140.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+42.9% per year) and Germany (-3.1% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the key foreign market for dry vegetables exports from Ukraine, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Spain amounted to +133.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+48.3% per year) and Germany (-6.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average dry vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 235%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ukraine
In 2022, purchases abroad of dry vegetables decreased by -12% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 36%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry vegetable imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), India (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of dry vegetable imports to Ukraine, together comprising 92% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +4.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), India ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest dry vegetable suppliers to Ukraine, with a combined 84% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +3.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average dry vegetable import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
