Electronic Chip Market Size in Ukraine

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Ukrainian electronic chip market, when its value increased by 38% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Electronic chip consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electronic chip production expanded modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 180%. Electronic chip production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Ukraine

In 2021, the amount of electronic chips exported from Ukraine skyrocketed to X units, surging by 34% on 2020. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, electronic chip exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a pronounced increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X units) was the main destination for electronic chip exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, electronic chip exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X units), threefold. The Czech Republic (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hungary stood at -9.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+47.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+59.2% per year).

In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the key foreign market for electronic chips exports from Ukraine, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Hungary amounted to -4.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+67.4% per year) and the Czech Republic (+50.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average electronic chip export price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

Electronic chip imports into Ukraine expanded remarkably to X units in 2021, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electronic chip imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight reduction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of electronic chip to Ukraine, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, electronic chip imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X units), fourfold. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-0.7% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-6.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest electronic chip suppliers to Ukraine were China ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 64% of total imports. Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, the United States, Singapore, Poland, Germany and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Among the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +181.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average electronic chip import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while the price for Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+15.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
