For the third year in a row, Ukraine recorded decline in overseas shipments of ferro-manganese, which decreased by -78.3% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ferro-manganese exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) were the main destinations of ferro-manganese exports from Ukraine, together accounting for 56% of total exports. Spain, Slovakia, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +45.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for ferro-manganese exported from Ukraine worldwide, together comprising 52% of total exports. Spain, Slovakia, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 9.9%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +99.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average ferro-manganese export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+36.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of ferro-manganese were imported into Ukraine; falling by -34.5% on the year before. Overall, imports showed a dramatic decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ferro-manganese imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Slovakia (X tons), India (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the main suppliers of ferro-manganese imports to Ukraine, with a combined 93% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Norway (with a CAGR of +66.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest ferro-manganese suppliers to Ukraine were Slovakia ($X), Norway ($X) and India ($X), together comprising 95% of total imports.

Norway, with a CAGR of +72.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average ferro-manganese import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 75% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
