Baby Food Market Size in Ukraine

The Ukrainian baby food market amounted to $X in 2021, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption saw a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby food production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. In 2021, the amount of food preparations for infants exported from Ukraine expanded modestly to X tons, increasing by 3.3% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 92%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baby food exports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 82%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the main destinations of baby food exports from Ukraine, with a combined 78% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 20%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +259.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Moldova ($X) were the largest markets for baby food exported from Ukraine worldwide, together comprising 83% of total exports. These countries were followed by Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 11%.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +238.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average baby food export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -10.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 23%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of food preparations for infants decreased by -8.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby food imports fell modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest baby food supplier to Ukraine, with a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, baby food imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +42.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-4.8% per year) and Germany (-4.8% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest baby food suppliers to Ukraine, with a combined 62% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +46.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average baby food import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
