For the third year in a row, the Ukrainian frozen poultry liver market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -13.7% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption recorded a abrupt setback. Frozen poultry liver consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen poultry liver production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Frozen poultry liver production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Ukraine

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of frozen poultry livers and offal, when their volume decreased by -9.8% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, frozen poultry liver exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for frozen poultry liver exports from Ukraine, with a 25% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen poultry liver exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X tons), twofold. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands stood at +297.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+85.3% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+48.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for frozen poultry liver exported from Ukraine were the Netherlands ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for 60% of total exports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +285.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average frozen poultry liver export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 44% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen poultry liver export price increased by +72.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+14.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2022, the amount of frozen poultry livers and offal imported into Ukraine shrank markedly to X tons, reducing by -36% on the previous year. Overall, imports saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen poultry liver imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of frozen poultry liver to Ukraine, with a 78% share of total imports. Moreover, frozen poultry liver imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), fivefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland totaled +21.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+3.3% per year) and the UK (-25.2% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of frozen poultry livers and offal to Ukraine, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 0.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland amounted to +9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (-7.7% per year) and the UK (-33.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average frozen poultry liver import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
