In value terms, glass fibre chopped strand exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for glass fibre chopped strand exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 92% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fibre chopped strand exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bulgaria (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Belarus (X tons), with a 2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to -10.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (-2.6% per year) and Belarus (-34.2% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for glass fibre chopped strands exports from Ukraine, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Bulgaria, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at -13.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+1.2% per year) and Bulgaria (-1.5% per year).

The average glass fibre chopped strand export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 7.2%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of glass fibre chopped strands increased by 22% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, glass fibre chopped strand imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Belarus (X tons), Russia (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of glass fibre chopped strand imports to Ukraine, with a combined 93% share of total imports.
