The Ukrainian plastic household articles market declined to $X in 2022, shrinking by -12% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a pronounced downturn. In 2022, shipments abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -53.5% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles exports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a mild downturn. Moldova (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic household articles exports from Ukraine, with a combined 42% share of total exports. Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Denmark, Armenia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +230.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Moldova ($X) and Georgia ($X) were the largest markets for plastic household articles exported from Ukraine worldwide, with a combined 44% share of total exports. Poland, Azerbaijan, Denmark, Hungary, Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Romania and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +199.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average plastic household articles export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 37% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

After six years of growth, supplies from abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -33.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 49%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, plastic household articles imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 35%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Poland (X tons), China (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic household articles imports to Ukraine, with a combined 69% share of total imports. Germany, Serbia, Italy, Hungary and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic household articles suppliers to Ukraine were Poland ($X), China ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 69% of total imports. Germany, Italy, Serbia, Hungary and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +18.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average plastic household articles import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
