In 2021, approx. X tons of fungicides, bactericides and seed treatments were exported from Ukraine; jumping by 61% on 2020 figures. In general, exports showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 96% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 146% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Belarus (X tons), Georgia (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) were the main destinations of fungicide and bactericide exports from Ukraine, with a combined 70% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +136.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +169.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average fungicide and bactericide export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 31% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+33.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, fungicide and bactericide imports into Ukraine skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 27% compared with the year before. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of fungicide and bactericide to Ukraine, with a 30% share of total imports. Moreover, fungicide and bactericide imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), twofold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +14.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+3.4% per year) and Spain (+9.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest fungicide and bactericide suppliers to Ukraine were Spain ($X), France ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 54% share of total imports. Germany, the UK, Israel, Hungary, Belarus and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Hungary, with a CAGR of +39.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average fungicide and bactericide import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 8.7% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
