Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 227%. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, public works machinery exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 239% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Azerbaijan (X units), Georgia (X units) and India (X units) were the main destinations of public works machinery exports from Ukraine, with a combined 58% share of total exports. Poland, Vietnam, Spain, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Serbia and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +30.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for public works machinery exported from Ukraine were Azerbaijan ($X), Georgia ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 63% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, India, Denmark, Vietnam, Italy, Serbia and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 10%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +29.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average public works machinery export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 74%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of machinery for public works and building, when their volume decreased by -31.7% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 618%. Imports peaked at X units in 2020, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, public works machinery imports fell to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 286% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) constituted the largest public works machinery supplier to Ukraine, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, public works machinery imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), fourfold. The Netherlands (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany stood at +23.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+43.0% per year) and the Netherlands (+21.1% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of machinery for public works and building to Ukraine, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 5.3% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +9.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+22.6% per year) and China (+42.4% per year).

In 2021, the average public works machinery import price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 130%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
