Malt Market Size in Ukraine

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Ukrainian malt market, when its value decreased by -11.6% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Malt Production in Ukraine

In value terms, malt production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 12% against the previous year. Malt production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Ukraine

In 2022, malt exports from Ukraine expanded significantly to X tons, surging by 13% on the year before. In general, exports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 331% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, malt exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 196%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Moldova (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Georgia (X tons) were the main destinations of malt exports from Ukraine, with a combined 64% share of total exports. Poland, Israel, Peru, South Korea, Mexico, Azerbaijan and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +117.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Moldova ($X), Turkey ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for malt exported from Ukraine worldwide, together comprising 61% of total exports. Georgia, Peru, South Korea, Israel, Mexico, Azerbaijan and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, South Korea, with a CAGR of +135.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average malt export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 31% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of malt decreased by -60% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 136%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, malt imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 56%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Belarus (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of malt imports to Ukraine, together comprising 86% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +13.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belarus ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest malt suppliers to Ukraine, with a combined 83% share of total imports.

The average malt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 43% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
