The Ukrainian modelling pastes market expanded sharply to $X in 2021, with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, shipments abroad of modelling pastes, dental wax and dental impression compounds was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, modelling pastes exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) were the main destinations of modelling pastes exports from Ukraine, with a combined 74% share of total exports. Latvia, Germany, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +87.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for modelling pastes, dental wax and dental impression compounds exports from Ukraine, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Moldova ($X), with a 9% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia totaled -9.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+0.6% per year) and Lithuania (+5.2% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, among the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Ukraine

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of modelling pastes, dental wax and dental impression compounds increased by 6.9% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -14.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 85%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, modelling pastes imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of modelling pastes to Ukraine, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, modelling pastes imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-1.1% per year) and Germany (+1.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Switzerland ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest modelling pastes suppliers to Ukraine, together comprising 55% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Russia, the Czech Republic and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 29%.

Among the main suppliers, Belarus, with a CAGR of +46.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average modelling pastes import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 12%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, among the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
