Motor Vehicle Engine Market Size in Ukraine

The Ukrainian motor vehicle engine market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, with an increase of 37% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, exports, however, saw a precipitous curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 248% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, motor vehicle engine exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a precipitous slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 126% against the previous year. Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for motor vehicle engine exports from Ukraine, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, motor vehicle engine exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X kg), fivefold. Hungary (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+53.9% per year) and Hungary (-28.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition) exports from Ukraine, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +4.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (0.0% per year) and Poland (+43.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average motor vehicle engine export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -10.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 203% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+27.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, the amount of motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition) imported into Ukraine soared to X tons, with an increase of 32% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, motor vehicle engine imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of motor vehicle engine imports to Ukraine, together accounting for 81% of total imports. The United States, Germany, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Slovakia, South Korea and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +31.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Russia ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest motor vehicle engine suppliers to Ukraine, together accounting for 91% of total imports.

The United States, with a CAGR of +21.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average motor vehicle engine import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 41%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
