After two years of decline, shipments abroad of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 68%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, oils from coal tar exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Lithuania (X tons) was the main destination for oils from coal tar exports from Ukraine, with a 32% share of total exports. Moreover, oils from coal tar exports to Lithuania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), threefold. Estonia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lithuania totaled +635.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (-8.1% per year) and Estonia (+580.3% per year).

In value terms, Lithuania ($X) remains the key foreign market for oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar exports from Ukraine, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Lithuania totaled +599.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (-10.3% per year) and Belarus (+226.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average oils from coal tar export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, the amount of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar imported into Ukraine soared to X tons, increasing by 179% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, oils from coal tar imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Belarus (X tons) constituted the largest oils from coal tar supplier to Ukraine, with a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, oils from coal tar imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Latvia (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belarus stood at +14.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-7.6% per year) and Latvia (+117.0% per year).

In value terms, Belarus ($X) constituted the largest supplier of oils and other products of the distillation of high temperature coal tar to Ukraine, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Belarus stood at -1.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-15.7% per year) and Latvia (+121.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average oils from coal tar import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
