In 2022, approx. X tons of onions and shallots were exported from Ukraine; which is down by -97.6% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports showed a precipitous shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 169% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, onion and shallot exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a precipitous decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 184% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Romania (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) were the main destinations of onion and shallot exports from Ukraine, together accounting for 79% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +49.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest markets for onion and shallot exported from Ukraine were Romania ($X), Moldova ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 75% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Turkey, with a CAGR of +39.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average onion and shallot export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -17.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 70%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Georgia (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of onions and shallots, when their volume increased by 418% to X tons. Overall, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 752% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, onion and shallot imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest onion and shallot supplier to Ukraine, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, onion and shallot imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Moldova (X tons), with an 8.9% share.

In value terms, the largest onion and shallot suppliers to Ukraine were Poland ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Moldova ($X), with a combined 85% share of total imports.
Moldova, with a CAGR of +88.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average onion and shallot import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 80% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+34.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
