Optical Telescope Market Size in Ukraine
The Ukrainian optical telescope market declined markedly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -24.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Exports from Ukraine
In 2021, overseas shipments of optical telescopes increased by 52% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 206%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, optical telescope exports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 549% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Romania (X units) was the main destination for optical telescope exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 61% share of total exports. Moreover, optical telescope exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Africa (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X units), with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Romania stood at +138.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (+37.1% per year) and Germany (-9.3% per year).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for optical telescope exports from Ukraine, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to South Africa totaled +70.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+1.5% per year) and the United States (-20.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average optical telescope export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -40.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 301%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+23.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Optical Telescope Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, the amount of optical telescopes imported into Ukraine declined significantly to X units, reducing by -26.4% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, posted a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 397% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.
In value terms, optical telescope imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 281%. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) was the main supplier of optical telescope to Ukraine, with a 90% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States (X units), with a 2.6% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-10.5% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+216.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the largest optical telescope suppliers to Ukraine, together comprising 54% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Hungary, with a CAGR of +185.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average optical telescope import price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 58% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 327%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+27.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
