Belarus (X tons) was the main destination for organic surface active agent exports from Ukraine, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, organic surface active agent exports to Belarus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Moldova (X tons), eightfold. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belarus stood at +9.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (-8.7% per year) and Kazakhstan (+44.6% per year).

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the key foreign market for organic surface active agents exports from Ukraine, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Moldova ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belarus amounted to +3.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (-1.8% per year) and Uzbekistan (+4.3% per year).

In 2021, the average organic surface active agent export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 41% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, the amount of organic surface active agents imported into Ukraine fell modestly to X tons, reducing by -3.3% against 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, organic surface active agent imports reached $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of organic surface active agent imports to Ukraine, with a combined 50% share of total imports. China, Hungary, Russia, France, Sweden, India, Belgium, Greece, Italy and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +67.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest organic surface active agent suppliers to Ukraine were the Czech Republic ($X), Germany ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined 49% share of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Hungary, with a CAGR of +52.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average organic surface active agent import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the price for Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
