Other Chemical Products Market Size in Ukraine

The Ukrainian other chemical products market shrank modestly to $X in 2022, which is down by -3.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a precipitous shrinkage. Other chemical products consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

For the fifth year in a row, Ukraine recorded decline in overseas shipments of other chemical products, which decreased by -2.6% to X tons in 2019. Over the period under review, exports faced a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2019, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, other chemical products exports shrank to $X in 2019. Overall, exports saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 18%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for other chemical products exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, other chemical products exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), eightfold. South Africa (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.7% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia amounted to -14.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-16.9% per year) and South Africa (-0.3% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for other chemical products exports from Ukraine, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia amounted to -12.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+26.0% per year) and Belarus (-20.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the average other chemical products export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2019: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last seven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, other chemical products export price decreased by -6.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 60% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2019, after three years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of other chemical products, when their volume decreased by -1.3% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2019; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

In value terms, other chemical products imports fell slightly to $X in 2019. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2019, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of other chemical products to Ukraine, accounting for a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, other chemical products imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Greece (X tons), fivefold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to +10.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Greece (+23.4% per year) and Russia (-11.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest other chemical products suppliers to Ukraine were Germany ($X), Russia ($X) and Turkey ($X), together accounting for 36% of total imports. China, Poland, India, Greece and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

China, with a CAGR of +13.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2019, the average other chemical products import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep downturn. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+9.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
