In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, phosphinates and phosphonates exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 94%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons) was the main destination for phosphinates and phosphonates exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 85% share of total exports. Moreover, phosphinates and phosphonates exports to Belarus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X kg), sixfold.

From 2015 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belarus totaled +64.9%.

In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the key foreign market for phosphinates (hypophosphites) and phosphonates (phosphites) exports from Ukraine, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2015 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Belarus amounted to +44.5%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average phosphinates and phosphonates export price amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 42% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia stood at $X per ton.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+2.8%).

Imports into Ukraine

In 2022, purchases abroad of phosphinates (hypophosphites) and phosphonates (phosphites) decreased by -80.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 146% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, phosphinates and phosphonates imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 161% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of phosphinates and phosphonates to Ukraine, with a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, phosphinates and phosphonates imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. India (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to +33.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-3.1% per year) and India (-7.3% per year).

In value terms, the largest phosphinates and phosphonates suppliers to Ukraine were Poland ($X), China ($X) and India ($X), together comprising 95% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +40.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average phosphinates and phosphonates import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 105% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate buoyant growth. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
